James S. Anderson, O.D. was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. He did undergraduate work at the University of Minnesota before transferring to Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. At Pacific, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in visual science and his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1976.

​​​​​​​James S. Anderson, O.D. practices in the Bloomington and Eden Prairie offices. He and his wife Sue have five children and reside in Edina, MN.
